What are the differences between material 3 and material 5 in zinc alloy die casting

2024-01-08 hits:0 source:News

In traditional die cast zinc alloys, the most widely used one is No. 3 zinc alloy. More than 70% of zinc alloy die cast products are made of No. 3 zinc alloy. The structure of No. 3 zinc alloy is mainly composed of zinc rich solid solutions containing Al and Cu and Al rich solid solutions containing Zn, and their solubility decreases with decreasing temperature. However, due to the extremely fast solidification rate of die castings, the solubility of the solid solution is greatly saturated at room temperature. After a certain period of time, this supersaturation phenomenon will gradually disappear, causing slight changes in the shape and size of the casting. Therefore, No. 3 zinc alloy has good fluidity and mechanical properties, and is suitable for castings with low mechanical strength requirements. The hardness and strength of No. 5 zinc alloy are higher than those of No. 3 zinc alloy. The characteristic transformation of No. 5 zinc alloy is due to the addition of 1% copper. This alloy has excellent casting properties and better resistance to creep (deformation when heated at high temperatures) compared to No. 3 zinc alloy. It can be used for electroplating, cutting, and general surface treatment, and is suitable for castings with certain mechanical strength requirements.
