Die casting molds are complex assemblies that consist of several essential components. The mold cavity is a crucial part where the molten metal is injected and takes the shape of the desired casting. It is usually made of high-quality steel and machined with precision to ensure the accuracy of the final product's dimensions. The core is another important element. It is used to create internal cavities or features in the casting. Cores can be movable or fixed, depending on the design requirements.
The runner system is designed to transport the molten metal from the injection unit to the mold cavity. It includes the sprue, which is the main channel through which the metal enters the mold, and the runners that distribute the metal to different parts of the cavity. The gate is the opening between the runner and the mold cavity, controlling the flow rate and direction of the molten metal. Ejector pins are used to remove the finished casting from the mold cavity after solidification. They are strategically placed to ensure that the casting is ejected without damage. Cooling channels are incorporated within the mold to regulate the temperature. By circulating a coolant, usually water, the cooling channels help to solidify the molten metal more quickly and evenly, improving the production cycle time and the quality of the casting. Additionally, the mold base provides structural support and stability to the entire mold assembly. It houses the other components and is often made of a strong and rigid material to withstand the high pressures and forces involved in the die casting process.
