Zinc die-casting parts usually have many holes, which are often different and contain many types. However, can you correctly determine their types?
The most frequently occurring pore defect on the surface of zinc die castings is sand hole, which includes sand hole and slag hole. We usually refer to these two types of pore defects as sand hole. Sand hole is a hole caused by sand falling, with irregular shape and rough inner surface, mostly located in positions with smaller cross-sections. Slag hole is an impure metal liquid containing slag, which leads to poor slag blocking during pouring, and subsequently causes shallow depth, smooth inner surface, and irregular shaped pore defects. Shrinkage refers to the irregularly shaped, top-down, and triangular shaped hole defects caused by the shrinkage of castings during the condensation process. Shrinkage porosity is formed by the lack of liquid metal or alloy in the final solidified area. It generally occurs at the hot spot of the casting wall and near the inner gate, and is also commonly distributed below concentrated shrinkage cavities.
