  What is the method of CNC machining multi line threads?

  With the rapid development trend of the mechanical manufacturing industry, higher regulations have been put forward for the thread precision and processing efficiency of various parts. Multi segment threads are a common type of thread machining that can double the efficiency of the transmission system. In traditional manufacturing, CNC lathes are used to process multi segment threads, but due to their low efficiency, poor precision, and high labor efficiency, they are gradually being replaced by CNC machining.

  1. Basic principles of thread processing

  The machining of threads is completed by the synchronous movement of the tool and the rotation of the spindle bearing. The servo motor installed on the spindle bearing of the CNC lathe instantly loads the speed ratio of the spindle bearing and converts it into the cutting speed of the tool. Generally, thread drilling is carried out repeatedly from rough cutting to fine cutting along the same tool motion trajectory. As thread drilling starts when the servo motor outputs a data signal for one rotation on the spindle bearing, it starts at the support point and the tool's drilling motion trajectory on the workpiece does not change.

  2. The method of dividing multiple thread segments

  Multi segment thread is a process that improves the parting line on the basis of general threads, and commonly used methods include shaft diameter parting method and circular angle parting method. The shaft diameter dividing method is to move the lathe tool along the centerline of the thread by one pitch after machining a vortex line, and then machine the second spiral groove. This method is suitable for CNC lathes without installation inspection equipment on the spindle bearings. It is suitable for machining threads with starting and ending points on all sides of the workpiece rather than in the middle, otherwise there is a high possibility of tool and workpiece interference. The method of dividing lines from a circular perspective is based on the characteristic of vortex lines being distributed at regular intervals on a circle, using evenly spaced circular perspectives to divide the lines. The use of the circular perspective line splitting method requires the lathe spindle to have a measurement range, but it is not subject to any limitations during the entire machining process. This method is more effective for threads with special requirements.

  3. Case authentication

  Firstly, it is analyzed that the thread of the workpiece is a 6-line rectangular frame thread, and the starting and ending points of the thread are located in the center of the workpiece. If the axis diameter dividing method is used, there is not enough space for the tool to move on both sides of the groove. Moving the axis diameter to the starting point of the thread will inevitably cause interference between the sharp blade and the workpiece. Therefore, using the method of dividing lines from a circular perspective, the thread consists of 6 vortex shaped lines, with a dividing angle of 360 °/6=60 °. Adopting a rectangular frame thread cutter with the same overall width as the spiral groove and containing a spiral angle to reduce the drilling resistance between the cutter and the workpiece. The calculation formula for spiral pitch angle is: tan psi=n P/π d2, where psi is the thread pitch angle, n P is the diameter of the thread pitch circle (n is the number of threads, P is the pitch), and d2 is the pitch diameter.
