  Gravity die-casting

  Gravity die casting, as the name suggests, mainly relies on the gravity of the molten metal itself to fill the mold cavity.

  In the operation of gravity die casting, the metal is heated to a liquid state in the furnace and slowly poured into the mold through tools such as ladle. Molds are usually placed on a specific workbench, and the design of the mold should take into account the flow path of the molten metal to ensure that the molten metal can evenly and smoothly fill the entire mold cavity. Compared with pressure die casting, gravity die casting equipment is relatively simple and does not require complex high-pressure systems.

  The advantage of gravity die casting is that it has relatively lower requirements for molds, and the mold cost is lower than that of pressure die casting molds. Moreover, due to the slow filling of the mold by gravity, the possibility of gas entrapment is relatively small, which makes the quality inside the casting relatively stable and reduces the probability of defects such as porosity. This process is particularly suitable for producing castings with high internal quality requirements and relatively simple shapes.

  However, gravity die casting also has its drawbacks. Its production efficiency is significantly lower than that of pressure die-casting because the filling speed of the metal liquid is slower, and it takes a longer time to complete a die-casting cycle. In addition, the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of castings produced by gravity die casting are usually not as good as those produced by pressure die casting, and may require more subsequent processing to achieve higher quality standards. In some small foundries or special fields that do not require high production efficiency but have high requirements for casting quality stability, gravity die casting still has its application value.
