The difference between die-casting and CNC

Die casting and CNC (machining center) are two different manufacturing processes that differ in multiple aspects:

  In terms of processing principles

Die casting: It is the rapid injection of liquid or semi liquid metal into the mold cavity under high pressure, and the metal cools and solidifies in the mold to form parts. It mainly relies on the fluidity of the molten metal and the constraints of the mold cavity to form parts.

CNC: It is based on computer programs to control cutting tools for cutting workpieces. By programming and controlling the coordinate axis movement and spindle rotation of the machine tool, the tool can remove excess material from the workpiece according to a predetermined path, thereby obtaining the desired part shape.

  In terms of processing objects

Die casting: suitable for producing metal parts with complex shapes and large batches, especially parts with complex internal structures and thin-walled structures. For example, complex structural components such as car engine cylinder blocks and gearbox housings.

CNC: It can process parts of various shapes, whether they are simple geometric shapes or complex three-dimensional surfaces. It has strong adaptability to the materials and structures of parts, and can process various materials such as metals and plastics.

  In terms of component quality

Die casting: capable of producing parts with high dimensional accuracy and good surface quality. The general dimensional accuracy can reach IT11-IT13 level, and the surface roughness value is relatively low. But there may be defects such as pores inside the parts, which have a certain impact on the mechanical properties of the parts.

CNC: Through precise programming and tool path control, very high dimensional accuracy and surface quality can be achieved. The quality of the parts it processes is stable, and there are no defects such as air holes inside.

  In terms of production efficiency

Die casting: With extremely high production efficiency, it is suitable for large-scale production. A single die-casting cycle can be completed within a few tens of seconds, enabling rapid production of a large number of identical parts.

CNC: The production efficiency is relatively low, especially when processing complex parts, which requires more time for programming and machining. But it has advantages for small-scale and multi variety production.

In terms of equipment and mold costs

Die casting: The cost of die casting machines and molds is relatively high, especially for high-precision and complex structured molds. But in large-scale production, the cost can be spread over a large number of parts.

CNC: The cost of machining center machines is relatively high, but the cost of cutting tools is relatively low. And when processing different parts, only the program needs to be modified without changing the mold.
