The Mystery of Gas Source in Die Casting Parts

Die casting is a metal product produced using die-casting processing technology, and its most common defect is porosity. So, is there anyone who is curious like me, why does it contain gas when it is melted and processed from a whole piece of metal? Next, let's uncover the mystery of gas sources in die-casting parts.

There are roughly three sources of gas in die-casting parts. Firstly, the gas released from the liquid metal. For example, when die-casting aluminum alloys, the liquid aluminum alloy has a higher solubility for hydrogen gas, especially at high temperatures. However, the solid aluminum alloy has a lower solubility for hydrogen gas. Therefore, during the filling and forming process of die-casting parts, a large amount of hydrogen gas will be released, which is a major source of gas in die-casting parts; The second is the gas involved during the filling of the metal liquid. Die casting is a high-pressure and high-speed die casting process, and the cavity of the die casting mold is connected to the atmosphere, so there is gas inside. When the metal liquid is filled at high speed, some of the gas that cannot escape in time will be wrapped up, becoming a source of atmospheric gas in the die casting part; The third is the gas generated by the decomposition of the release agent. If the coating used is improper, or if the spraying is uneven or excessive, it can lead to the generation of gas.
