The Vickers hardness test is also frequently used, especially for measuring the hardness of small or thin - walled aluminum die - castings. In the Vickers hardness test, a diamond pyramid - shaped indenter is used. The indenter is pressed into the casting surface under a specific load, and the diagonal lengths of the resulting indentation are measured. The Vickers hardness number is calculated based on the load and the area of the indentation. This test offers high accuracy and is suitable for measuring the hardness of different micro - structures within the casting.
