During the production process of die-casting, die-casting manufacturers are prone to defects in their castings, some of which cannot be detected by the naked eye. Therefore, other inspection methods are needed for testing. Next, we will recognize the commonly used inspection methods.
Firstly, there is the radiographic testing method, which utilizes the penetrability and straightness of rays to detect defects. Although these rays are not visible to the naked eye, they can make the photographic film photosensitive and receive them through a special receiver. Generally, radiographic testing is suitable for detecting volumetric defects, but not for detecting area defects, which has certain limitations. The second method is ultrasonic testing, which is commonly used in industry as a few megahertz method for testing. Ultrasonic waves have high frequency, strong straightness of propagation, and are easy to propagate in solids. They are also easy to reflect and propagate between two media, which can be used for testing. Finally, there is the penetration testing method, which can be used for testing castings with smooth surfaces. Fluorescent liquid is infiltrated into the gaps of the die casting, and the liquid that rises from capillary phenomenon to the surface will emit fluorescence under UV light irradiation, thus better displaying the shape of cracks exposed on the surface.
